Following is an interview of retired Judge Jeri Beth Cohen. As a longtime leader at the local, state and national levels, she shares her experience and insights. Judge Jeri Beth Cohen retired from the bench on September 30, 2020 following 20 years of service.
Judge Jeri Beth Cohen
- Recently retired presiding circuit judge in Dependency and Criminal Drug Court Divisions, Miami-Dade County, Florida
- Recognized as an expert on issues relating to child welfare, substance abuse and mental health
- Has worked on a national level to develop Drug Court guidelines and curricula and has trained drug courts across the country
- Has chaired the Florida Association of Drug Court Professionals and sits on the Board of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP)
- For Florida Supreme Court, was the statewide Dependency Court Improvement Panel Chair; and was a member of the Task Force on Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues in the Courts, the Task Force on Treatment-Based Drug Courts, and the Drug Court Steering Committee
- Has been a member of the Miami-Dade County Opioid Addiction Task Force and past chair of the Managing Entity, Thriving Mind, South Florida
